Long Nights and Short Days

It begins in long nights
 and short days.
It begins with ashes
and quiet reminders of mortality.
It doesn’t end there.
Our story continues
through lengthening daylight,
blossoming trees, blooming flowers,
and a promise of life breaking in
yet again.
