A Deeper Truth

Image
In that moment when you can only hear the message that you have failed, are a failure, will never be enough, could never measure up . . . pause . . . breathe deeply; feel your pulse; listen again. The truth is deeper. You are the beloved. You are a gift of the universe to the universe. You are . . . you, and that is exactly who you need to be. -bshivers
Here’s the deal . . . there are humans out there, nope, there are humans here, here on this planet we share, you know, our real neighborhood, who look nothing  like me, like you, like us. They don’t speak the same language with the same accent or the same intonations. They probably call the divine by a name that is different than the one that seems familiar. They likely worship in a space that looks, smells, sounds unusual. The place they call home is beyond imagination. Their lives are not much like our own, at least on the surface, but underneath it all, the lives we live, the pains, the loss, the joys, the sorrows, the struggle, are eerily similar in a completely different  kind of way.  Yet we belong to one another.  We are responsible for one another. They are our brothers, our sisters, our mothers, our fathers, our daughters, our sons.  They are us.  We all belong to each other. - bshiv...

Limitless - a poem

I am not the boundary of you. You are limitless. Don’t let you end. This is your lasting act of love.   — bshivers

Rest

Rest Your spirit; Your mind; Your body; Your soul. Breathe Deliberately; Slowly; Deeply; Completely. Dwell In acceptance; In peace; In grace; In love. Be Present; Here; Now; You.

Become Flesh - spoken word video

Image
Are we not more than an odd mixture of stardust and words? It is from dust we were formed and it is to dust we shall return. The inbetween is full of words, some spoken, some thought, and many forgotten. There must be something more. Perhaps the purpose of this life is to become flesh, to become fully human. This is the real riddle of this thing we call incarnation: the absurd mystery revealed in the life of the nazarene. Incarnation, this flesh becoming, is more than a theological concept spoken of with grand words and in lofty tones. It is a messy work, a beautiful, murky, lived realty of blood, water, and bodily fluids. This is where we find life. The question is, do I have the courage to become flesh? And in so doing acknowledge the value of the life that is in front of me. My own wonderful mess as well as the magnificence of the one standing, sitting, kneeling, lying with me. Through the incarnation we have been freed — freed to be present in our skin and with one ano...

Hey, You

(a poem) Hey,  you; Yeah,  you. The one      sitting over there. The one      standing alone. The one      lost in thought. The one      feeling insecure. Listen. No, not to the noise, not to the lies, not to the thoughts      that clutter your brain;      that distract you;      that make you anxious. Listen deeper; listen way down deep to the rhythm of the universe that says, "You are beautiful;" "You are magnificent;" "You are necessary;" "You are perfectly you." Hey,  you. Yeah,  you. - bshivers
